I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has joined both APM & PMI what the main differences are between the organisations. I know that they are regionally specific to the UK & USA, but beyond that, is there a difference in philosophy, approach, membership benefits, etc.?

Colm,

PMI has the benefits of education, networking, and certification. The PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is becoming more commonly recognized as identifying people who have a base knowledge in project management. It is structured similarly to the US States Professional Engineer's exam in that it requires education, experience, and an exam to become certified.

You can check out PMI at www.PMI.org.

Good luck,

Les,

Yes, thanks. That much I knew already. I was interested in understanding what differences in philosophy, approach, membership benefits, etc. exist between PMI and APM.

I'm assuming that you are a PMP instead of an MPM. Do you also have a relationship with APM?

Colm,

I am an MPM and working toward becoming PMP certified. I am not familiar with APM. I am a Board Member of one branch of PMI and feel that I can share with you the approaches that our branch uses in our PMI meetings.

Our branch has just over 400 members. One of our greatest strengths is in having very good programs at our monthly dinner meetings.

Can you be more specific in what information you are seeking in "approach, hilosophy...etc?"

Best regards, Les

Les,

APM is the Association of Project Management from across the pond. I'm trying to determine if there are any fundamental differences between them and PMI other than the regional base.
