Hi

I was just wondering what backup strategies are currently being used and how people are finding them. I have sumarised ours as follows with options in brackets:

Frequency: Daily [Daily, Weekly, Monthly]
Type: Full [Full, Differential, Incremental]
Location: On and off site [On site, Off site]
Storage: Hard disk [Tape, CD, DVD, Hard Disk, Memory stick]
Archive: Monthly [Weekly, Monthly, Yearly]
Testing: Occasional [Never, Occasional, Regular]
Notes: I find that this works ok for us, total backup is about 3.5 GB daily. The on site backup is stored in a seperate fire zone from the main data.

Pleas let me know what you think and what you are currently doing.

Thanks

Hi Roxster

Looks like a good strategy to me. My only comment would be that you should be testing the back ups on a regular basis rather than occasionally. There's more information about if you look for it.

Here we back up daily to tape and a number of these are kept offsite. We use ArcServe software.

We have a 5Gb backup, which automatically runs back-up every night. We also have a second server in another part of the world, mirroring the server in case something happens in the building where the server is.

The backup files are also copied to disc daily.
